A PENSIONER recovering from breast cancer has won the honour of wearing race number one in this year's Cancer Research UK Race for Life.
Pauline Hustwick, of Richmond, entered The Northern Echo's competition to wear the coveted race number in this year's five kilometre race at South Park in Darlington.
Mrs Hustwick, 68, will walk the course on Sunday, July 13, with her youngest daughter, Fiona.
For the past two years, Mrs Hustwick has been battling breast cancer and is now in remission, visiting hospital for check-ups every six months.
Mrs Hustwick said: "I have had breast cancer for the last two years and also suffer from angina, but I am determined to complete the distance. My doctor said it would be fine as long as I walk round and I will have my daughter for company.
"I have already started training and am looking forward to it."
