A YOUNG man died yesterday when two cars collided on a country road.
The man, in his 20s, was driving a blue Ford Fiesta when it was involved in a collision with a silver Vauxhall Astra.
The accident took place on the B1363, near Wigginton, York, at about 8.45am. Two ambulances and several police officers attended the scene.
Sergeant David Elders said he believed the man, the sole occupant of the Fiesta, was travelling towards Sutton-on-the-Forest when he appeared to lose control while negotiating a right-hand bend, and ended up on the other side of the road.
The car then collided with the Astra, which was travelling in the opposite direction.
Both female occupants of the Astra were taken by ambulance to York Hospital suffering from minor injuries.
The road was closed and diversions were put in place for much of the day.
Anyone with any information about the crash is asked to call police on (01723) 509555.
