A SPEEDING driver lost his licence for a fortnight and was fined £300 yesterday after admitting travelling at more than 100mph.
Welding inspector Michael Atkinson, of Kirknewton Grove, Ingelby Barwick, was travelling on the A19 on his way to a job in Billingham on April 9 when his silver VW Golf was recorded travelling at 104mph by a police patrol.
Magistrates were told he made no reply to the traffic officer when he was stopped near North Kilvington.
In court in Richmond yesterday, he offered no explanation for his speed except that the car was reasonably new and he had not realised how fast he was going.
He was ordered to pay £40 costs.
