HOSPITAL volunteers have donated £2,000 to help patients recovering from surgery in Hambleton.

The generous sum, from the volunteers who run the shop and trolley service at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton, has been used to buy a new Dinamap monitor.

The new equipment will be located on ward four and will allow nurses to closely monitor patient's blood pressure, pulse rate and temperature, especially after they have had an operation or major treatment.

Volunteers Janice and Terry Wake and hospital shop manager Norena Backhouse attended an official presentation with ward manager Helen Tyler.

Ms Tyler said: "We would like to express our appreciation to the shop and trolley service and their volunteers for providing this machine which will help us care for future patients on the ward."

* Specialist cancer nurses at the hospital are holding a new monthly drop in session for patients with cancer and their carers.

The next session is tomorrow from 10am to noon in the Conference Room.

The nurses will be on hand to provide support and give advice and information and to help people with queries and concerns.

The June meeting will include a talk from a speaker from Hospice Homecare giving information on the service they provide.
