A NEW initiative is being launched to open the doors of museums to schoolchildren.
Youngsters from Hambleton and Richmondshire are being invited to take part in a programme of arts activities.
The ACTIV8 programme for eight to 11-year-olds starts this summer and professional artists will run a variety of taster sessions, from making giants out of junk to using the latest technology, to create music and graphic art.
The project is being developed by arts development officer Kate Staines and district museums officer Lynda Powell.
The ACTIV8 days, which cost £3 a session, run from 10am until 3.30pm.
They will be held at The World of James Herriot, Thirsk; Shandy Hall, Coxwold; Richmondshire Museum, Richmond; Green How-ards Museum, Richmond; Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum, Great Ayton; Kiplin Hall; Bedale Hall; Georgian Theatre, Richmond; Thirsk Museum; Swaledale Folk Museum, Reeth; and Dales Countryside Museum, Hawes.
