THE fight against crime takes to the airwaves in Redcar with the relaunch of a radio link system.
The Redcar Retail Crime Initiative, which involved eight businesses when it was launched in 1992, now has 56 members, with a dozen more small traders ready to accept a free three-month trial.
Upgraded to include a five-tone panic system that sends a call to police in seconds, the new system is provided by Middlesbrough suppliers Sitelink Communications.
Redcar town manager John Partridge said: "We believe the upgrade will give the town centre an enhanced system, which will benefit us in the fight against retail crime.
"We are also offering a three-month trial period for small businesses to join and already the take-up has been encouraging."
The initiative has a £50 annual membership fee.
