elderly and disabled people will have better access to one of North Yorkshire's beauty spots in the future.
The newly-formed Friends of Dalby Forest has handed over a £2,500 wheelchair as its first contribution towards improving facilities in the woodland on the North York Moors.
Treasurer Paul Hignett and chairman Graham Dixon presented the chair to visitor centre manager David Goodliffe and Peter Green, of the Forestry Commission.
The chair will enable disabled and elderly people to take part in a two-mile round trip from the centre to Ellerburn.
Mr Hignett said the money had been raised from the Friends' share of income from season ticket holders to the forest toll.
He said the chair, provided at a discount by Active Mobility Centre, of Scarborough, would open up an attractive route which was not accessible to many people in the past.
The group, which now has a membership of 1,686, is also planning to provide a fort for the children's play area and to plant a large quantity of daffodils.
