A STORE offering eco-friendly clothing has opened in a city shopping centre.
The Earth Collection shop opened in the Prince Bishops Shopping Centre, in Durham, on Saturday, marking the brand's first appearance in the North-East.
Mike Ridley-Smith, co-director of the franchise, said: "Our philosophy is simple - we produce garments with a minimal use of chemicals in the production phase.
"We also ensure our accessories and packaging are made of recycled and natural materials.
"The basic idea is to produce a line of products respecting the environment at a price that matches conventional garments. I decided to open The Earth Collection in Durham because it is a magnificent city offering a mix of regular shoppers and tourists, and it is perfectly located within the bustling Prince Bishops Shopping Centre for attracting a steady flow of customers."
Mr Ridley-Smith said there were plans to open further stores in Morpeth, Hexham, and Alnwick, in Northumberland.
Richard Toynbee, centre manager at Prince Bishops, said: "The Earth Collection is a very welcome addition to the centre, and certainly one of the more unusual shops. The concept is very appealing, especially to those interested in preserving the environment, and I would like to wish Mike and his team every success."
