CATTLE and sheep will be back in force at this year's 117th Malton Show.
Chairman Ian Hamilton says the show, to be held at Scampston Park on Thursday, June 26, promises to be one of the best for many years, with more attractions and bumper entries.
About 200 sheep will be exhibited, plus 50 cattle and 25 goats.
Mr Hamilton also said entries in the popular heavy horse classes were the best ever.
Because of Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs restrictions resulting from the 2001 outbreak of foot and mouth disease, livestock will be restricted to their own areas, and will not be able to take part in the big parade in the main ring.
Other highlights will include demonstrations of owls and falconry, a large dog show, plus the usual high entries in the fur and feather, handicrafts and horticulture classes.
Mr Hamilton said a crowd of about 12,000 was expected at the show. The number of trade stands at 140 has equalled last year's record.
"The show is a shop window for many Ryedale businesses because they benefit from orders which often follow long after the event," said Mr Hamilton.
"Overall the show is worth a great deal to the local economy and we are confident that it will be a great day out with attractions and something of interest for everyone."
