THOUSANDS of unsung heroes who care for their loved-ones are to get a much-needed pamper day.
Unpaid carers across Hartlepool will be able to enjoy a free pamper day at the town's Grand Hotel tomorrow, from 11am to 9pm, as part of celebrations to mark National Carers' Week.
Janet Wistow, a planning manager at Hartlepool social services, said: "In Hartlepool, we have nearly 10,000 people providing unpaid care to family, friends and neighbours. That amounts to more than 11 per cent of the town's population.
"About 2,600 of those care for people for about 50 hours a week. This is well above the national average."
Health, wellbeing, employment and training will be the main focus of the day, and social services officers will be able to provide information.
Alternative therapies will also be on offer, as well as workshops on subjects including benefits.
