A WOMAN is recovering after she was attacked by two muggers.

The attack happened as the woman, who has not been named, was on her way to the Pretoria Working Men's Club in Medomsley, near Consett, at 7.30pm on Saturday. The men approached her and demanded her handbag and mobile phone. When she refused, a struggle ensued. She suffered scratches to her chest when one man tried to snatch her bag. MISSING TEENAGER: Police are concerned for the safety of Kirsty Louise Stephen, 15, who has been missing from her home in Austen Avenue on the Whitleas Estate, South Shields, since Saturday. CAR STOLEN: A burgundy Ford Escort was stolen from outside Stanley Indoor Bowls Centre, in Front Street, Stanley, between 8.30 and 10pm on Saturday (JUN 7). Anyone with information should contact Stanley Police on (01207) 232144.

CARAVANS STOLEN: Police believe a gang may be targeting caravans in the Consett area. A caravan was stolen from the rear of Benfieldside Road, Shotley Bridge, near Consett, overnight on Tuesday, June 3, and another the night before from Delves Lane. TOOLS TAKEN: Thieves stole tools worth hundreds of pounds after breaking into a Renault Kangoo van in Wylam Road, Stanley, overnight on Saturday. HOUSE FIRE: Firefighters dealt with a fire at a bungalow in Curzon Place, Blakelaw, Newcastle yesterday. The property was badly damaged in the blaze but the occupants escaped unharmed.
