DETECTIVES were last night investigating claims that a teenage girl was sexually assaulted by two men in a late-night attack.
The 16-year-old told police she was walking to her Darlington home on Wednesday night when she was confronted by the pair, dragged into an alleyway and subjected to the ordeal.
An area near the junction of Northgate and Corporation Road was sealed off yesterday as forensics officers examined the scene.
The girl was recovering at home after giving detectives a description of her attackers.
They were said to be aged between 20 and 25 and of slim build. One had short dark hair, while the other had short blond hair.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Reddick said: "We have forensically examined the scene and done some house-to-house inquiries. We are looking for any witnesses, or anyone who might have information, to contact us."
The girl was said to have walked along North Road towards her home before being attacked at about 10pm.
Anyone with information is asked to call Darlington police on (01325) 467681.
