A TWO-year-old maiden heifer from H D Atkinson's Monarch Farms, Holmfirth, took the supreme championship at the spring show and sale of pedigree Limousin breeding cattle, held on behalf of the North-East Limousin Breeders' Club at SkiptonaAuction mart.

Monarch Sally, by Highcross Oscar out of Friarspart Nicehat, was chosen for her size and shape by show judge Harold Isherwood, of Greave Park Limousins, Bacup.

He gave the reserve award to Toftgate Terence, a February 2002 breeding bull shown by Christopher Prince of Toft Gate Farm, Greenhow, Pateley Bridge. Mr Isherwood described the progeny of Bellisle Omy and Toftgate Princess as a "nice clean young bull with good muscles".

First prize for cows with calves at foot went to D & M Cormack, Abbots Close Farm, Thirsk, with the four-year-old Nimboboteign Ohdea and her offspring Newstart Upbeat, bought for 1,400gns by neighbours, W A, V J & J A Towler.

The top price among the 34 cattle forward, was 1,920gns for Millington Sharp, a 2001 son of 10,000gns Redpaths Optic, from Millington Grange Estate, Cold Skin Farm, Millington, York, bought by S Oldfield of Bilton in Ainsty, York.

A 1,650gns bid by Roland Carr, of Bolton Abbey, Skipton, secured a 2002 Westside Oakley son, shown by G P Robinson & Partners of Carthorpe, Leyburn.
