WORKERS left their cars behind yesterday in an attempt to highlight the benefits of public transport.
A team of Darlington Borough Council employees travelled to the town hall on foot and by transport as they took part in the second annual Leg It Day.
The initiative, being promoted by councils across the region, urged people to try walking, cycling and public transport as a means of getting to work.
Nick Wallis, the council's cabinet member for highways, said: "Leg It Day is a good opportunity for us all to consider how we travel around and try out alternative, and often healthier, means of getting from A to B.
"Hopefully, the day has encouraged people living in and travelling to Darlington to think about different ways of getting into the town other than by car where possible."
