A BOOKLET giving details of major sea defence works on the North Yorkshire coast is proving popular.

A total of 5,000 copies of the booklet were printed to allow people the chance to learn about the £33.6m project.

But, within weeks, thousands of them have been given out and a second print run may be needed.

As soon as some shops and kiosks get more supplies, they are being snapped up by interested visitors, as the scheme - the biggest of its kind in Europe - becomes a tourist attraction in itself.

Councillor Godfrey Allanson said: "We thought it would be a good idea to have a booklet as so many people were asking for more information on the scheme.

"Local people, and especially visitors, are fascinated to see the scale of the work.''

The booklet is available at local tourist information centres, the town hall, and at shops and local hotels.
