Unwanted Samoyed dog Oliver, who was featured in The Northern Echo last month, has found a new home.
The nine-year-old dog was taken in by the National Animal Sanctuary Support League, in Darlington, after his owners could no longer care for him. The sanctuary said yesterday that Oliver had found a home with a mother and son in Robin Hood's Bay, North Yorkshire.
ART SUCCESS: Hayley Louise Godfrey, nine, of Darlington, has won the regional final of a children's art competition run by Ribena and local store group Londis. She now goes on to compete in a national competition and could win a family holiday in Florida.
STATION UPGRADE: The top two floors of Newton Aycliffe Police Station are to be refurbished while rewiring takes place and power and lighting circuits are renewed. A fire alarm system is being installed and floor coverings replaced as part of a package of measures to upgrade the station, which opened in 1972.
COFFEE INVITATION: Staff at Darlington's Crown Street library are holding a coffee morning on Monday, from 10am to noon.
GALA DAY: Hurworth Grange Community Centre, near Darlington, is holding a gala day tomorrow. Anyone who has items which could be used as raffle or tombola prizes is asked to contact (01325) 720840.
SPORTING FUN: A badminton fun day takes place at Darlington's Dolphin Centre on Sunday, June 22, from 11am to 3pm, for children aged ten to 13. To book call 0191-377 3229.
BOOT SALE: A car boot sale takes place next Saturday, June 21, from 2pm to 5pm, on Heighington playing fields. The event is raising funds for the Methodist church.
LOG ON: The Four Clocks Centre, in Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland, opens an Internet Caf on Monday. Three computers will be available from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Logging on costs 50p for 15minutes and printing is 10p per sheet. A fourth has free access to two sites: the Citizens Advice Bureau Advice Guide and Learn Direct training courses.
INFORMATION GRANT: A grant of £775 towards the Sedgefield and District Advice and Information Service has been made by Ferryhill Town Council.
ACTION GROUP: An action group consisting of county, borough and town councillors, residents' representatives and headteachers has been set up to explore how a shake-up in education will affect schools in Ferryhill, looking particularly at Dean Bank Primary School, which is being considered for closure.
CHURCH CONCERT: Cockfield Methodist Church hosts a concert by Tanfield Lea Male Voice Choir on Saturday June 21 at 7pm. Admission is free.
