IMPROVEMENTS to the River Foss will improve the habitat for fish to spawn.
Large wooden boards, or groynes, are being installed at Strensall, north of York, to create currents and provide a shelter for fish.
The introduction of spawning gravels and the planting of additional bankside vegetation will also enhance the habitat for wildlife.
The joint scheme, involving the Environment Agency and the Foss International Drainage Board, should be completed next week.
