COUNCIL officials in Hartlepool have announced changes to local speed limits to try to improve road safety.
The main alteration will be on Hart Lane, where a stretch with a 30mph limit will be extended to just beyond the Tarnston Road junction.
A 40mph limit will then be in force up to the golf club roundabout.
Peter Frost, traffic team leader at Hartlepool Borough Council, said: "There has been a lot of development in that area since the original 30mph limit was set in 1978, and we felt there was a need for a review.
"Hart Lane is much more heavily used by traffic and pedestrians than it used to be and reducing the speed limit fits in with our strategy."
The new limits come into force from Wednesday, June 25.
Advisory signs have been put up to give drivers advance warning of the changes.
