AN unusual golf competition raised hundreds of pounds for charity.
The competition, organised by Lesley Mullen of the ladies' section, attracted 40 players for the event at Woodham Golf and Country Club, in Newton Aycliffe, near Darlington.
After completing nine holes in daylight, they went on to complete the other nine after midnight, using fluorescent golf balls.
The fairways were marked by lighted cones provided by Premier Traffic Management.
The first prize, a round of golf for four at Slaley Hall, in Northumberland, was presented by Paul Glover, of SG Petch, to Chris Walker and Morgan Fielding. Other prizes included rounds of golf donated by Ramside Hall, Beamish Park and Brancepeth Castle Golf Clubs.
The event raised £600 for the Durham County Lady Captain's charity, Breast Cancer Research and Scope. Club owner Stan Roberts provided use of the golf course for free.
Ms Mullen said the event had been an outstanding success and hoped it would become a regular feature of the golf club programme.
She thanked all who had supported the event, including bar manager Richard Parker and golf professional Peter Kelly.
