ATHLETES of the future are to have their exploits beamed round the country on national television.
Sky Sports TV will have its cameras trained on budding sports heroes battling for gold medals at this weekend's Teesside Youth Games.
The event takes place at Brierton Community School and Mill House leisure centre in Hartlepool, as well as the Norton Sports Complex in Stockton, on Saturday and Sunday.
Almost 1,000 competitors are expected to take part in a number of pursuits including hockey, tennis, basketball and netball.
The event will be screened by Sky Sports 2 on July 11, at 5pm, with five repeat showings over the following two days on two other channels.
Emma Warnes, Stockton Borough Council's sports development officer, said Sky's presence highlighted the growing importance of the event in the sporting calendar.
She said: "Teesside Sports Partnership, the co-ordinator of the event, would like to thank all coaches and volunteers, without whom the games would not exist, and wishes all competitors and spectators an enjoyable weekend of sport."
