LIFE is far from being a drag for one of the region's performers, who takes to the stage wearing glamourous costume for the first time this week.
Ruby Diamond will make her theatre debut during a variety show on Friday, but the woman on stage will be quite a transformation from the piano tuner who will arrive at Saltburn Community Theatre, on the east Cleveland coast.
Most days, Ruby is better known as Michael Rudd, from Northallerton, North Yorkshire.
He has been involved in amateur dramatics since he was 16 and has sung with pop groups, at folk clubs and with choirs.
"Two and a half years ago I was at Stockton Folk Club when I did an impression of Pam Ayres," he said.
"The very enthusiastic response prompted me to write more material and I have since dressed up as Ruby and performed in many pubs and clubs."
Mr Rudd said his wife, Janet, was very supportive of his alter ego Ruby and had even helped apply her make-up and create her costumes.
l Tickets for the Family Variety Show cost £4 and £5. They are available from Kings newsagents, in Saltburn, or at the door.
