THOUSANDS of households which were left waterless on one of the hottest nights of the year were yesterday reconnected to the supply.
Problems at the Harlow Hill treatment works at Harrogate, North Yorkshire, hit premises throughout the town centre and some neighbouring areas.
Many taps ran dry while others suffered from low pressure and discolouration from Monday afternoon.
Engineers from Yorkshire Water worked around the clock to try and resolve the problem.
Meanwhile, other employees delivered supplies - in the form of bottled water and tankers - to hospitals, nursing homes and other organisations.
Customers still experiencing problems can contact Yorkshire Water's emergency helpline on 08451 242424.
