The wife of missing Spennymoor town clerk Terry Robson last night made an emotional appeal for him to return. The 55-year-old has not been seen since Saturday night, when he left his Kirk Merrington home. His car was later found in Alnmouth, Northumberland. Valerie Robson said: "We just want you back safely. We all love you so much."

nurse charged: A hospital nursing sister has been accused of attempting to murder five elderly patients. Barbara Patricia Salisbury, 47, who worked at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Cheshire, was charged yesterday as she answered bail at Crewe police station.
