FERRYHILL Town Council is asking people for their opinion on a proposed improvement scheme at the entrance to the town.
The centrepiece of the scheme, on a triangle of land where Darlington Road joins the A167, is a 6ft Davy Lamp representing the town's mining heritage.
It will be mounted on a stone plinth and surrounded by secure fencing to deter vandals.
The scheme, which will only go ahead if the town council can secure sufficient grant funding, includes other environmental improvements to the plot of land.
It will feature a new bus stop, new paving and extensive flower beds, and may also involve replacing the wall at the former Ferryhill Athletic football ground on the opposite side of the road.
A questionnaire about the scheme has already been distributed to residents living nearest the affected land.
