CHILD safety has been put under the spotlight in a new campaign by the county council.
The road safety team is putting out the simple message "Accidents happen in seconds... but the results can last a lifetime" to help prevent serious road incidents involving children.
County Councillor Peter Sowrey, executive member for road safety, is urging people throughout North Yorkshire to attend the events being organised as part of the campaign.
The team will be on route around the county to offer free child car seat checks, while health visitors from the NHS primary care trust will be on hand to answer any number of questions.
The campaign hopes to raise awareness of the tragic circumstances that accidents can have, in light of recent figures from the Child Accident Prevention Trust 2003.
They claim that one in four of all deaths of ten to 14-year-olds is as a result of a road accident.
The next child safety event is being held in the Morrison's car park, Harrogate, on Thursday, June 26, between 11am and 3pm.
