FORMER Health Secretary Alan Milburn has given his support to the Cancer Research UK Race for Life taking place in his constituency.
South Park, in Darlington, will host the 5km race on Sunday, July 13.
Women of all ages are invited to walk, jog or run the course to raise money for the charity.
Mr Milburn, the town's MP, said: "I am very happy to support the Race for Life and I am delighted it is being held in Darlington for the second year running.
"It is a great, fun event which will hopefully raise a lot of money for Cancer Research UK.
"You don't have to be super-fit to take part and I would urge as many women as possible to join in on the day.
"I just want to say good luck to everyone involved."
More than 1,000 women have signed up for the Darlington race.
To register for the race, which is supported by The Northern Echo, call (08705) 134314.
