A WOMAN who took medication to terminate a pregnancy died of shock after suffering severe internal bleeding, an inquest heard yesterday.
Tracy Smith, 31, and her brother, Karl, were playing pool at Riley's in Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough, when Miss Smith started to feel dizzy.
She collapsed and Mr Smith alerted a member of staff. The pair then tried to resuscitate her while an ambulance was called.
She was taken to Middlesbrough General Hospital where she died on May 28 last year.
The inquest heard there were no signs of drugs, abused substances or significant amounts of alcohol in her system.
Days before she died Miss Smith, of Brusselton Close, Middlesbrough, had taken prescribed medication to induce an abortion.
She lived with her mother, Avril Appleyard, who said she had been a fit and healthy woman.
Gynaecologist Robert Hutch-inson, said the procedures followed were common and he could find no connection between the termination and her death.
Dr Mustansir Nurbhai, who carried out a post-mortem examination, said it could have been caused by alcohol but Miss Smith had only drunk a pint of beer with her lunch that day.
Deputy coroner Tony Eastwood recorded an open verdict.
