THE voice of Terry Wogan echoed around the ruins of an abbey this week, although the Irish broadcaster was probably still winding down after his Radio 2 breakfast show in London at the time.
The presenter's dulcet tones were mimicked by stand-up comedian and impressionist Phil Cool, who was at Fountains Abbey, near Ripon, North Yorkshire, to prepare for a performance that will help mark the 20th anniversary of the National Trust taking over the stewardship of the World Heritage Site.
Cool, whose repertoire includes the Pope, Tina Turner, Bugs Bunny and Sylvester Stallone, will host the Music by Moonlight Eurovision! show at the abbey on Saturday, July 19.
He will be introducing Abba tribute band, Bjorn Again, and former Eurovision Song Contest winners Bucks Fizz.
He will also be awarding prizes to members of the audience who enter into the spirit of the evening and wear fancy dress.
But before that, the man who was discovered while working as an audience warm-up act for Spitting Image will also appear at the abbey with Birmingham comedian Jasper Carrot.
Their first live performance together for eight years will launch the anniversary festival on Saturday, July 12.
