A shanty town and a virtual village displaying the latest environmentally-friendly technology will help demonstrate greener ways of living on Sunday.
The Action Packed Futures event at the Riverside Stadium, Chester-le-Street, aims to help people find out more about greener lifestyles and celebrates the launch of Local Action 21, a global initiative intended to encourage people to help the planet.
The event offers activities for children, instructions in meditation and complementary therapy demonstrations.
Food and drink made from organic and fairly-traded produce will also be available.
Entertainment includes an environmental magic show, music, story telling and a performance by Jackass and Turrets youth theatres.
The event coincides with National Bike Week and cyclists can take part in an organised ride from Hetton Lyons Park, Hetton-le-Hole, and Sunderland city centre to the stadium.
The Action Packed Futures event runs from 11am to 3pm
