The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee decided to keep interest rates static amid fears a cut would reignite the housing market.
Three members of the Bank of England's interest rate setting body kept up pressure for a cut in the cost of borrowing but were overruled by the remaining six who wanted to keep rates at 3.75 per cent.
