DURHAM will draft in Martin Love for his Twenty20 Cup debut against Yorkshire at Headingley tonight.

The Australian will take over from either Ashley Thorpe or Gordon Muchall and left-arm spinner Graeme Bridge has also been added to the squad.

Australian batsmen have been very much to the fore in the new competition, with Brad Hodge, Simon Katich, Andrew Symonds, Mike Hussey and Michael Di Venuto all making runs, and Durham coach Martyn Moxon said: "They are such good players they can adapt to any situation.

"We didn't feel it was an absolute necessity to play Martin on Wednesday because we had done well without him in the first match on Friday and his thumb was still sore.

"But it's improving and the way we batted at Trent Bridge in the National League on Sunday and in Wednesday's Twenty20 match it looks as though we need him.

"It's the nature of the game that panic is going to creep in, but we had a couple of unnecessary run-outs and Martin is a quality player who can bring some stability to the middle order."

It was touch and go at the start of the season whether Bridge or Nicky Phillips got the spinner's spot, but Phillips has justified his inclusion so far and there is no question of him being excluded. But spinners have done quite well in the Twenty20 so far, so Durham could include both, although Headingley's reputation for helping seamers makes it unlikely.

The DLI Trophy, said to be the largest sports trophy in the world, will be at stake.

It has normally been contested in the championship clash between the derby rivals, but as there is no guarantee of that happening under two divisions, the switch was made.
