Cadets prove exam prowess
Four members of the 1507 Chester-le-Street Air Cadets squadron have passed their Staff Part 1 exam, enabling them to obtain a BTec in aviation. Four cadets passed their senior exams and one cadet passed his Leading exam. Membership is open to anyone aged between 13 and 20. Adults interested in helping to run the squadron are also welcome. Anyone wanting to join is welcome to visit the Territorial Army centre, in Picktree Lane, Chester-le-Street, on Wednesdays and Fridays, between 7pm and 9pm.
BUSINESS LECTURE: A lecture offering companies advice on how to survive in the face of adversity will be held in the MBA Lecture Theatre, at Durham Business School, on Thursday, at 5pm.
EXTRA DATES: The Gala Cinema, in Durham, will screen the Jungle Book 2 at noon and 1.30pm tomorrow and on Sunday.
MS COLLECTION: A collection in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society's Durham branch, held in the city on Saturday June 7, raised £393.19.
BRASS RETURN: Northern Brass will perform at Durham Town Hall at 7.30pm on Sunday. For details call Durham City Arts, on 0191-301 8245.
REUNION DATE: The third Crookhall Reunion will be held at Consett Victoria Social Club at 7.15pm on Thursday, July 10.
CUB SCOUTS: The 3rd West Stanley St Andrew's Scouts group is appealing for members. The Cub Scouts, for children aged between eight and 11, meet in the Scout Hut in Church Bank, Stanley, on Mondays, from 6.30pm to 8.10pm. The Scouts meet in the building on Tuesdays, between 6.30pm and 8.40pm.
SERIOUS ASSAULT: Police are looking for witnesses to a serious and unprovoked assault on two men in Benedict Road, Sunderland, at 11pm last Friday. One man is still being treated in hospital for his injuries. Anyone with information is asked to call 0191-454 7555.
CHURCH TEAS: Parkinson Memorial Methodist Church, in Sherburn Village, will be selling strawberry teas for £1 on Saturday, June 28, from 2.30pm, in aid of work on the church building. There will also be stalls and a performance from the Sherburn Stars jazz band.
CLUB REWARDED: Redby Out of School Club, Sunderland, has received an Aiming High Quality Assurance Certificate from the Sunderland Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership.
ON STAGE: The Bruvvers Theatre Company will stage Operation Elvis, a play about a boy who believes he is Elvis Presley, at Birtley Community Centre, on Thursday, July 3, at 7.30pm.
