ENTRY forms are now available for the annual Ferryhill in Bloom competition.

The town's floral reputation has grown in recent years, with success in the Northumbria in Bloom competition.

Council officials believe that is due, in part, to the high standard of entries for the town's own contest.

There are four categories for this year's competition: best front garden, back garden, back yard and commercial premises.

There are prizes for the top three in each category and certificates for entries of a high standard. Gift vouchers have been donated by Thinford Nurseries, sponsors of this year's competition.

Entry is free and forms can be collected from Ferryhill Town Hall. The closing date is June 27, with judging taking place on July 8 and 9.

The council is also running a best allotment competition for all sites it manages.

There are awards for the most improved garden in each allotment and an overall prize for the best plot.

Allotment holders do not need to enter as each site will be looked at by the judges.
