A WOMAN burglar who broke into a school was jailed for two years yesterday.
After Anne Marriner, 34, broke into Polam Hall School, Darlington, a broken and bloodstained window was discovered in the early hours and she was arrested nearby. She was bleeding heavily and she told police that she was hoping to steal a computer to sell.
She was bailed but caught again burgling in Middlesbrough, at a Kwik Save store, and stealing from two shops, said Andrea Pitt, prosecuting, at Teesside Crown Court.
Marriner's downfall was due to heavy drinking, said Nigel Soppitt defending. She accepted that if she carried on drinking heavily, she would kill herself.
He said: "She did not start drinking until she was 19, and before that she was no problem to anybody."
Judge Michael Taylor told her; "You are a thief and you are a drunk, and the courts have tried time and time again to help you, probation officers have tried and all to no avail."
Marriner, of Wellington Street, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to the burglaries and thefts in March and April.
