Money raised for good causes by last year's mayor of Northallerton was a record £7,000.
Hospice Homecare and Northallerton Silver Band have both been presented with cheques for £3,500.
Former mayor Jack Dobson organised coffee mornings in the town hall and concerts given by the Silver Band to boost the fund.
At a presentation ceremony at the Village Inn, in Brompton, Mr Dobson thanked everyone who had supported the fundraising.
Band chairman David Prest said: "We enjoyed every minute of being associated with the mayor's charity and working with Hospice Homecare, and we are honoured to have been chosen as one of the civic charities."
Mr Prest also praised the work done by Mr Dobson's wife, Hilary. "Without her sterling efforts this amount would not have been raised," he said.
