A COUPLE accused of conspiring to defraud the Prudential Assurance Company have had their case adjourned until next year.
Michael Melton, 58, and his wife Susan, 44, of Staindrop, near Barnard Castle, face two fraud charges.
The first alleges that on or before September 26, 2001 they conspired to defraud the Prudential Assurance Company while trading as New Business Solutions Limited. The second charge is of conspiring to defraud the Prudential while trading as Labligistical Services Limited.
Mrs Melton, a former director of the Prudential, faces a third charge that she conspired with others to corruptly give and accept payments involving a Colin Glossop and his company FFWD/Area 51.
The couple's case, which is being heard at Southwark Crown Court in London, has been adjourned to January 16 of next year when a plea and directions hearing is due to take place.
