THE globetrotting adventures of a teddy bear are drawing admirers from all over the country.

Doddy, the teddy bear mascot of Dodmire Infants' School, in Darlington, has been all over the world.

Staff, parents and friends take Doddy with them whenever they go on holiday and his travels are used in geography lessons.

He is so much in demand that he has been joined by a friend, Diddy, who has just returned from helping the war effort in Iraq.

The bears' exploits have featured regularly in The Northern Echo and, more recently, in The Times Educational Supplement and the school has received fan mail from interested readers.

One is a knitted rucksack, accompanied by a card purporting to come from "a group of bears".

The card, addressed to Doddy and Diddy, says: "We know that you have your own passports, but were wondering what you use to carry your 'bear' essentials in on your adventures."

Dodmire's headteacher Maureen Dixon says she has no idea who the gift is from, but would like to know so she can thank them.

She said: "Somebody has made this specially for Doddy, but there's nothing to say who it's from.

"I wondered at first if somebody was having me on, but they wouldn't have gone to all this trouble if they were and I want to thank them."

Doddy and Diddy have also received a letter from a London professor who is an educational psychologist and takes her own puppet on holiday to meet children in other countries.

Anyone who wants to own up to sending the rucksack can contact Mrs Dixon on (01325) 380769.
