A MULTIPLE sclerosis sufferer told a court yesterday how she developed cannabis chocolate to help alleviate the symptoms for others suffering from the condition.
Elizabeth Ivol, also know as Biz, from Orkney, Scotland, told the trial at Kirkwall Sheriff Court that she began taking cannabis to numb the pain, which she described as "like having barbed wire going through my spine".
Ms Ivol, 55, of South Ronaldsay, eventually agreed to help other MS sufferers, a condition with no cure, by developing the "special Belgian chocolates" as they were earlier described in court, as well as cannabis patches to be applied directly to the skin.
She denies several charges in relation to the handling of the drug.
She told the court she came up with the idea, along with others, of developing the cannabis chocolates after agreeing to help a non-smoking MS sufferer.
The trial was adjourned until next month.
