Seaton Carew maintained their lead at the top with a weekend double. After narrowly defeating Great Ayton on Saturday, they romped home by nine wickets in yesterday's game with Darlington.

Dave Alsop returned 6-46 and Danny Evans took 3-30 as Darlington posted 151, a target which Seaton met losing just one wicket. Ricky Clayton carried his bat for 79 and Neil Skirving added an unbeaten 43.

On Saturday Seaton had a close call before overtaking the target set by Great Ayton.

John Doyle senior bowled an economical six overs taking three wickets and after a good start to their innings, Seaton struggled towards the end before edging to a two wickets win.

Following the departure of Ricky Clayton for a useful 22, Gareth Sharp struck nine fours in 49 and Martin Skirving added 37 with four boundaries as the pair formed a second wicket partnership, but wickets then fell cheaply.

The top score of the game was recorded by David Grainge, who opened for Ayton. He had one six and 13 fours scoring 65 leading his side to a useful 161 in 49 overs.

The bulk of the bowling for Seaton was carried out by John Fitzpatrick and Dave Alsop. The former returned 5-46 from 15 overs while Alsop sent down no fewer than 24 overs for figures of 4-74.

Wolviston, who played just once, had almost 100 runs to spare over Middlesbrough who were reduced to 92 all out by the bowling of George Sayers, with 3-23 and Martin O'Neill, whose four wickets cost him just 29 runs.

Johnny Woolnough (74) provided the biggest contribution to the Wolviston's Sunday total of 191-9.

Great Ayton quickly recovered from losing on Saturday by inflicting an eight wickets defeat on Marske, who looked relatively safe with 215 on the board. Robin Walker crashed four sixes and 17 fours in 129 made from as many deliveries but failed to finish on the winning side. David Grainge, with 84 from 95 balls and Neil Pearson (62) earned Ayton a crucial victory in their bid to keep the pressure on the leading sides.

Marton maintained their position on the fringe of the leading pack with a four wickets victory over Normanby Hall. Barker, with 51, led the Hall to 175-7 but a half-century by Lane saw Marton home.

The runs flowed in Saturday's game between Stokesley and Marske - and it was the home side who scored the bulk of them.

Batting first, Stokesley realised 233 for the loss of six in 50 overs. David Weighell recorded one six and 17 fours adding 106 and Mark Boston contributed 47. Marske stuttered to 58 all out in 20 overs and Clive Dowson, Ian West and Robert Morton shared the wickets.

Barnard Castle were another side to struggle for runs, making only 83 at Billingham Synthonia. Once again, the twin attack of Keith Martin and Martin Cull spearheaded the Synners attack.

Martin took 3-39 from 20 hugely economic overs, bowling six maidens while his colleague captured seven wickets for 32 runs in 19.2 overs. The batsmen failed to score from seven of his overs.

Billingham though did not have things exactly their own way and conceded half of their wickets before securing the small total which took 22.4 overs to compile.

After both openers fell without scoring, Synners were grateful to Simon Driver who was just a run short of a half-century when he was caught after striking eight fours.

Richard Carruthers made a hundred in Bedale's drawn game with Redcar. He hit one six and found the boundary line on another 14 occasions helping Bedale to 217 all out in 50 overs. Douglas and Bainbridge shared seven of the wickets.

Peter Wilson opened with 49 and Martin Reeves carried his bat for 53 (eight fours) as Redcar responded with 178-7.

Normanby Hall had three wickets and plenty of overs to spare in their home fixture with Guisborough. Ryan Murray (35) top performed in the visitors innings which ended on 160 after 48.5 overs. Saj Hussain (44) and Brian Leech (39) led the reply and although Murray took 4-44 in 9.4 overs, the home side edged home from 39.4 overs.

Marton won comforably at home to Middlesbrough after reducing their visitors to 132 all out. Mark Ditchburn, with 4-25 in 13.5 overs and Chris Lane, whose four wickets cost 37 runs from ten overs, did the damage. Lee Roberts, who struck six boundaries in 53 and Chris Murdoch (35) provided most of the Boro runs. Gary Knight then carried his bat for 53, recording nine fours and Marton secured victory in 29 overs for three wickets.
