FRUIT good, sweets bad - that was was the lesson at one Loftus school this week.
The 170 children at St Joseph's RC Primary School had a fun day learning all about fruit and vegetables. They joined nursery school children to take part in games, artwork and singing a specially-penned song in the Health Action Zone event, which was funded by Sure Start East Cleveland.
Each child received a certificate and presents, including bookmarks, stickers and a toothbrush after games such as choosing between 'good' fruit and 'bad' sweets and tasting six fruits - pineapples, mangoes, papayas, bananas, apples and peppers.
Sure Start's senior dietician Lyndsey Robinson said: "It is important for children to try new tastes and get into healthy eating routines at a young age to provide a healthy start in life."
There are plans to extend the activity day to other schools in Loftus and Carlin How.
