Heighington bowled out Cliffe for only 51 in 18.4 overs before winning by ten wickets.

Stuart Beaumont was in outstanding form claiming six wickets for 16 runs in nine overs, four which were maidens and Phil Olney was equally effective. His 9.4 overs spell earned him four wickets for 30 runs.

In reply Adam Beamson hit one six and three fours in 22 not out while Tony Smith had an identical unbeaten total. He found the boundary line five times.

Barton and Aldbrough St John were involved in a high scoring game which produced over 400 runs. When they made first use of the wicket Barton realised 235 for five. Opener Lockey scored 29 while Miller carried his bat for 81 and Hedon added 33. Fillars took four of the five wickets to fall for 94 as only three players shared the visiting attack.

Replying, Aldbrough were given a reasonable start by Jones (27) before Lewis top scored with 36. Later Fillars added 29 but a total of 170 was all that was achieved before the last wicket fell. Frankland, Hedon, Barker and Bell all took a couple of wickets for Barton who ended 65 runs winners.

Raby Castle were pegged to 103 for three in their game at Barningham who won by five wickets. Poole finished undefeated on 47 for Raby Castle when all three wickets were taken by McGar for 37 runs.

When they went to the wicket Barningham lost early batsmen before French scored 31 and Mossford finished with 20 not out.

Cockerton overtook the Whitton le Wear total of 129 not out with three wickets remaining. Chrisp led the way with 56 for Witton and Bannister added 27 but runs were at a premium as Leafe took six for 53 and Glenn four for 62.

Replying, Cockerton conceded the wickets of their two openers for just eight runs before Farrow added a vital 65 batting at number three. Davis then contributed 34 not out and formed an unbroken partnership for the eighth wicket with Cowan. Johns claimed four wickets for 62 runs and Nelson had two for 52.

Haughton went down by seven wickets visiting Rockliffe Park. Required to score 144, Rockliffe Park reached the target when Fidell ended with 56 not out and Krishnan made 37. Pybus also added a useful 21.

In the Haughton innings most of the runs came from McGuire and Wilkinson who both scored 47 out of a total of 143 for eight. Howels had figures of four for 38 and Krishnan two for 41 for Rockliffe Park.

Despite making 169 for seven, Ingleton lost by eight wickets to Middleton St George whose match winner was opening batsman Rogers. He finished undefeated on 106 and Bainbridge added 37.

In the Ingleton innings none did better than Stuart Dawson and Michael Batey contributed 28. Rogers was also in good form with the ball for Middleton St George taking four wickets for 53 runs and Hussain had figures of three for 53.

In Division B, Middleton Tyas had 73 runs in hand of Heighington. When they batted first, Middleton Tyas posted 127 all out in 24.2 overs. Their top scorers were Ashwell with 24 and Weaver with 28 while Campbell contributed a useful 21 toward the end of the innings. Jameson took six wickets for 48 runs in 13 overs and Wilson had three for 22 in the 4.2 overs he sent down in the visitors attack.

When they went to the wicket, Heighington were dismissed for just 54 in 22.3 overs. Neil Campbell was in magnificent form and from 11.3 overs, five of which were maidens, he took eight wickets for a meagre 17 runs.

Spennymoor overtook the Trimdon total of 127 for five with eight wickets remaining. Opener Nichol batted throughout for 42 not out and Putts contributed 62, this after Trimdon had been restricted to 127 for five which included scores of 20 or more from Gofton, Horner and Carr. All five wickets to fall were taken by Troop at a cost of 63 runs.

Runs were a lot more plentiful at East Cowton where Catterick Village overtook the home team's total of 185 for six with four wickets remaining. After openers Carter and Galey had contributed 32 runs between them, the momentum was raised by Osleton (42), Bolton (35) and Swainston, who finished undefeated on 40. Whitfield captured four of the six wickets for 72 runs.

Batting first East Cowton were indebted to Welton for his 65 and to Whitfield who made 32 while for Catterick Village's Osleton was the most successful bowler with figures of three for 72 while Swainston returned two for 29.

Despite making a healthy 188 all out, Lands lost by four wickets to Rockliffe Park. Elstob had a very good day with the bat for Lands scoring 109 when he opened the innings while for Rockliffe Park Pounder took five wickets for 48 runs. Responding, the visitors were given a good send off by Raby and Pounder who between them scored 42 runs but it was Edwards who was the match winner who scored 82 before being caught. Towards the end, Marshall (26no) and Charlton with an unbeaten 20 formed an unbroken partnership for the seventh wicket. Little, who took the first two wickets to fall, ended with figures of three for 79 and Dalton had three for 46.

Spennithorne and Harmby lost by six wickets to Dales despite scoring almost 200 runs. Farrer (47) and Greaves (64) lead the visitors to 190 for six with three of the wickets falling to Wallis at a cost of 63 runs.

Despite losing two early wickets, Dales won reply with 194 for four which included 35 by Richardson and an unbeaten 74 from Wallis who was involved in a fifth wicket partnership with Lawson (27no). Walker returned two for 65 and Fowler two for 36 in the visiting attack.

Eryholme lost by just five runs visiting Middleton in Teesdale. Replying to a target of 155 Eryholme managed only 149 for eight which included 43 by Warne and 29 from his opening colleague Thornton. White also passed 21 but thereafter runs were scarce as Watson picked up four wickets for 59 runs and Coatsworth returned two for 37. When they batted first, Middleton in Teesdale realised 154 for seven and the majority of the runs came from opening batsmen Coatsworth with 63 and Watson (51). In the Eryholme attack none did better than Walker with four for 45 while Robson finished with three wickets for 50 runs.

In Division C, Barton defeated Aldbrough St John by eight wickets. Hull with four for 39 restricted Aldbrough to 101 before S Kelly made 37 and D Kelly 35 not out.

Cliffe overtook the Trimdon CCA score of 136 for eight with seven of their wickets remaining thanks mainly to Peacock who carried his bat for 56. Peat had a good deal with the bat for Trimdon scoring 46 and in the Cliffe attack Walton took five of the eight wickets to fall for 67 runs.

After a scoring 129 Cockerton lost by two wickets to Trimdon Colliery and Deaf Hill. Owens was in magnificent form Trimdon Colliery taking eight wickets for 57 runs but when Trimdon replied they found Rawlings (3 for 15) and Simpson (3 for 30) also among the wickets.

Richardson took three for 38 when Lands totalled 123. The total was more than sufficient since Haughton made only 93 in reply which included 32 by Richardson. Howe was in splendid form with the ball for Lands taking seven wickets for a meagre 37 runs.

Brompton on Swale lost by 27 runs to King James whose top run maker was Hill with 36 out of a total of 117. Wardell, with five for 30, and McGough (4 for 44) shared most of the wickets for Brompton who in reply were all out for 90. Black took six for 55 and Goodland three for 15.

There was a runs feast when Barningham batted first against Raby Castle. They realised 267 for eight with Metcalfe ending unbeaten on 90 while Walker contributed 49 and Moore 30. Winspoor with four wickets for 101 runs was the top wicket taker for Raby Castle who replying ended on 193 for three which included 77 by Lee.
