Three Second Division teams proved to be the giant killers of the First Round of the Knock Out Cup when they beat teams from the top bracket. Bishop Auckland gents A pulled off a good away win at Hopetown, whilst Darlington Snooker B matched the performance with a win at Newton Aycliffe Southerne Club. Second Division Shildon Elm Road beat the visiting Tindale Crescent from the First Division, whilst Old Shildon almost managed to equal the feat but they just went down at home to Darlington Cricket Club on the final pink.
Results: Bishop Auckland Gents B lost to Barnard Castle Glaxo; Northgate lost to Bishop Auckland Cricket Club; Shildon Elm Road beat Tindale Crescent; Old Shildon lost to Darlington Cricket Club B; Newton Aycliffe Southerne Club lost to Darlington Snooker Club B; Bishop Auckland Golf Club beat Darlington Snooker Club A; Hopetown lost to Bishop Auckland Gents A; Darlington Cricket Club A lost to Darlington Riley's.
The draw for the quarter finals, to be played on Tuesday, 8 July, is Barnard Castle Glaxo v Shildon Elm Road; Darlington Snooker B v Bishop Auckland Gents A; Darlington Riley's v Darlington Cricket Club A; Bishop Auckland Cricket Club v Bishop Auckland Golf Club.
