David Ward has wasted no time in making an impression since being elevated to the Wolvistons 3rd team.

The 14-year-old bowler is the youngest player in the team but he has risen to the challenge - and in only his third game he took three wickets playing against Yarm earlier this month.

A pupil at Northfield School, Billingham, David also took a wicket in his first match but a hat-trick in his third, where he is playing against players twice his age, and recorded figures of 3-20 in four overs has made people take notice.

He is normally a scorer for the 1st team for whom his father, Geoff, plays. But the youngster has not been available for scoring duties since his introduction to senior cricket, as he is now required for duty on Saturdays.

The teenager is in his fourth year with Wolviston - where he has been in the youth ranks until getting the call for action this summer - and he has had a productive few weeks after being called into the Cleveland County squad for the first time recently.

Wolviston's Terry Rowland, has coached the left arm spin bowler and says: "David's a very good player and deserves all the accolades he gets."
