BUSINESS men and women from across the North-East will get a taste of Army life the hard way this weekend.

Employees from the region have been volunteered by their bosses to take part in Exercise Executive Stretch at Catterick Garrison, in North Yorkshire.

The 100 candidates will be divided into teams, before pitting their wits in a series of gruelling initiative tests.

The tests could include driving a series of military vehicles, showing grit and determination in water-based challenges, or fighting their way through a training area used to teach soldiers the techniques required for urban warfare.

The Territorial Army's Tyne Tees Regiment - soon to send a detachment to Iraq - has been given the task of setting the tests this year.

The unit, normally based in Durham but with companies in Ashington, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Bishop Auckland and Scarborough, hopes that the weekend will inspire some of the team members to consider joining the reservists.
