Hamsteels Inn made a good start to their first season in the league when they won in the decider at Cornsay Royal Oak. After the trebles were shared the Oak had singles wins from Robbie Young, Barry Bailes and Sonia Windsor, whilst the visitors' levelled through John Hankey junior, Ray Mayers and Bob Hurd.
The first two doubles were shared but Hamsteels snatched victory when Steven Johnston and Ray Mayers beat Tommy Cairns and Ian Truby in the decider.
Billy Row Club's return to the league saw them go down in their first home match by the odd point to Esh McKennas. The visitors' took both trebles but then only had Keith Starr and John Hennigan as singles winners. The Club levelled the match with singles wins from Colin Wilkinson, George Blakey, John Peacock and Les Hopps. However McKennas recovered to take the first two doubles for victory.
The leading individual scorers were R. McFadden 157, J. Parkin two 140's and D. Dixon 140 for the New Market A, W. Anderson two 140's for Tow Law New Market B and Barry Bailes and Geoff Close 140 each for the Royal Oak.
