THE early secrets of explorer Captain James Cook are to be unearthed in front of the television cameras.
In 1997, in Stewart Park, Middlesbrough, archaeologists discovered the possible remains of the home of Captain Cook - or that of a neighbour - during a geophysical survey.
A more in-depth archaeological investigation by Tees Archaeology, in partnership with Middlesbrough Council and the Teesside Archaeological Society, starts in the park today.
The dig is one of only a handful of UK sites which will be open to the public, and television's Time Team will visit the site on Friday.
