A MIX of displays, stands and competitions made for a successful North Yorkshire County Show on Sunday. Crowds turned out in force for the 25th annual North Yorkshire County Show at Otterington Hall, South Otterington, near Northallerton.

Starting early in the morning, a full list of events provided something for all the family, with a Yorkshire Food Marquee full of cakes, sweets, meat and vegetables, and outdoor trade stands selling clothing, toys, games and furniture. A sheepdog and farmyard display, a Shetland Pony Grand National and a vintage machinery exhibition also provided entertainment.

SUMMER CONCERT: The Northern Sinfonia is performing its third summer concert at Whitby this month, with a programme of well-known classical music. The event takes place on Sunday, at the Whitby Pavilion, West Cliff, at 8pm. Tickets are £12 for adults (£4 for under-21s) and can be bought in advance from the Chocolate Box, Golden Lion Bank, or reserved by calling (01947) 604855.

DRAG ACT: Female impersonator Ruby Diamond will be performing at the Leeming Bar Hotel, near Bedale, on Friday, at 9pm. The comedy singer will entertain with parodies of songs by Abba and The Carpenters. Admission is free. For further information, call (01677) 426264.

ART EXHIBITION: The second annual Laverton Art Exhibition will be held at Meadow Farm Gallery, Laverton, near Ripon, in August. The exhibition is open to amateur and semi-professional artists in the Ripon area. There will be a preview night at Meadow Farm on Friday, August 22, and the exhibition will then run until Saturday, August 30.
