The decision by the Auckland and District EBAC Youth League to go into suspension for next season has prompted Willington Under-18s to join the Rhom & Haas JOC Hetton Junior League.
Willington have turned down the chance of joining the new under-18 league being set up by the Durham FA. "The Hetton league operates mainly in the Sunderland area, and we are used to travelling there with our younger teams who play in the Russell Foster junior league," said Willington team manager Rob Lee.
The Willington under-18s are holding their presentation evening at the Hall Lane clubhouse on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Willington Boys Under-16s celebrated winning the Russell Foster first division championship with a presentation night at the Hall Lane clubhouse. All team members received championship medals and trophies from the club.
Daniel Lee was named player of the year and Liam Howe the players' player of the year. David Jackson received the top scorer trophy with 26 goals for the season.
There was a special presentation of an engraved watch and a cheque for Chris Hutton, who suffered a broken leg in a game in which he had scored four goals.
The team will continue as an under-17 side for next season, but manager Robert Lee would still like to hear from any new players interested in joining the squad. He can be contacted on 01388 747323.
