YOUNGSTERS who designed and made paper ties as part of a hospital fundraising event have had their designs recreated on silk.
Marie Thompson and Kimberley Salisbury, from Bishopsgarth School, Stockton, designed the ties as part of a Loud Tie Day earlier this year.
Hundreds of pupils from the school took part in the event, which was aimed at raising awareness of bowel cancer.
The colorectal team at the University Hospital of North Tees, Stockton, raised £170 by selling the ties for £1 each to hospital staff.
The money will be used to buy soft furnishings for a counselling room within the colorectal unit.
The winning designs were chosen by Coloplast Limited, which had them made into the silk ties that were presented to Marie and Kimberley at an awards ceremony.
A third winner, Michael Hird, received a £10 prize.
