FAMILY, friends and admirers of the late Cardinal Basil Hume attended the unveiling of a bronze bust in his memory.
The work stands on a plinth at Ampleforth, where he was a former abbot, outside Hume House, a boarding house for boys and girls.
The bust was created by Antony Durfort, a well-known sculptor and former pupil at Ampleforth School.
During his address, the Abbot of Ampleforth, the Right Reverend Timothy Wright, said: "We gather to bless this statue and to give thanks for the life and work of our friend, Cardinal Basil.
"Whenever we set up a statue in memory of those who have faithfully followed Christ, we are encouraged to walk in the way of truth as they did. Whenever we look on things of beauty, we are reminded of God, who is the source of all good things."
He said the bust had a wonderful likeness and would stand as an inspiration to the boys, girls and all who see it.
Cardinal Hume's sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Christopher Westmacott, nephew Philip Westmacott and niece Diana Gormley attended the blessing.
